Freight carriers and brokers determine freight pricing using a standardized National Motor Freight Classification® (NMFC®) system. These classifications are primarily determined by a shipment's density (weight per cubic foot) and are used by SureShip™ to retrieve accurate transportation costs.
This article describes the form used to review the freight classes that your SureShip™ module has access to.
The SureShip Freight Class form is used to associate API-enabled freight carriers with applicable freight classes.
A Class Value is a standardized code used by the carrier’s electronic database to identify an NMFC® freight class. Because carriers determine their own code formats, their class values may not be interchangeable with other carriers offering the same freight services – for example, the code for NMFC® 100 is “CLASS_100” for FedEx Freight® and “100” for UPS Freight®.
The Weight Min and Weight Max fields designate the density range (weight per cubic foot) that applies to the selected carrier and freight class.
